Noodle Dance, 2007

This was a fun piece because it took me only 3 1/2 hours to paint from beginning to end, and that includes the preliminary drawing. How? Underpainting. The entire canvas was painted first with the background color, then the image was drawn. Next, a midtone brown was painted in the positive space. Purple was painted in for the shadows and white for lighter areas. After that dried, acrylic paints were mixed with a glazing medium and stroked over the underpainting. Highlights were added last. |
